The VSX platform

VSX is Vovoid's latest addition to the music visualization scene. With superior audio processing and unbeleivable artistery it provides a thrilling and accurate music visualization experience.

About the platform

  • The acronyme is pronounced ViS'X' - Visualization Xtreme
  • VSX runs as a standalone application acting a visual player
  • Plugins work pretty much the same way as media player ones
  • VSX can do visuals in window mode or in fullscreen.
  • VSX relies on OpenGL for hardware acceleration

System requirements

  • The heavy use of OpenGL require the equivalent of a Geforce 2 graphics card or better.

The people behind VSX

VSX is developed and supervised by the Vovoid visualization team:

  • Robert Wenzel - well known as CoR releasing many appreciated visuals for the Terra Lycos® Sonique media player
  • Jonatan Wallmander - author of Starlight Aurora and founder of Vovoid

Professional use

For professionals and artists we are currently developing VSX Ultra which is free to use for any purpouse. Please read more at http://vsxu.com

Audio quality

VSX audio analysis is superior to audio players like Winamp/Sonique. This provides an even greater and quick response with almost no latency at all. You can literally feel the music when percepting both sound and imagery. (Note: This depends greatly on the soundcard)

Music player independence

When designing VSX we wanted to get away from the player hype that we've been involved in before. Being very limited by technology our previous visuals have been released exclusively for Sonique and Realplayer.

What is VSX really? (for techies)

VSX is simply a DLL host. It deals with audio analysis and feeds data to the visuals. This basically works as the relationship Sonique had with its visuals except for some differences in how the drawing surface is handled - it's OpenGL after all. Visuals are programmed in C++ using the OpenGL libraries. It reads the soundcard's record channel for audio and uses that to provide the visuals with beat detection and equalizer values.

Expansion

The API to develop visuals for VSX is opensourced. We invite skilled visual artists to join us in the quest for the ultimate visualization experience. Contact us for more information.
